1. Use the web to gather information or interesting fact about:
 a. Seagate Technology
Seagate has been a leader in the development of the hard disk drives since releasing the 5 MB ST-506 drive in 1980, the first 5.25-inch hard drive.
They were a major supplier in the microcomputer market during the 1980s, especially after the introduction of the IBM XT in 1983.
In 1989 they finalized the purchase of Control Data Corporation's Imprimis division, makers of the well regarded Wren product line. This gave Seagate access to the Wren's voicecoil-based technology. In 1991 they introduced the 7,200 RPM Barracuda line, which remains their high-end offering to this day. They purchased Maxtor in 2006.
From the videos, music and documents that we share with friends and family on social networks, to servers that form the backbone of enterprise data centres and cloud-based computing, to desktop and notebook computers that fuel our personal productivity, Seagate products help more people to store, share and protect their valuable digital content.
Seagate offers the industry’s broadest portfolio of hard disc drives, solid state drives and solid state hybrid drives. In addition, the Company offers an extensive line of retail storage products for consumers and small businesses, along with data recovery services for any brand of hard drive and digital media type.

b. SanDisk Corporation
SanDisk Corporation is an American multinational corporation that designs, develops and manufactures data storage solutions in a range of form factors using the flash memory, controller and firmware technologies. It was founded in 1988 by Dr. Eli Harari and Sanjay Mehrotra, non-volatile memory technology experts.
On September 4, 2006 at the IFA show in Berlin, German authorities seized all MP3 players that were in SanDisk's booth since Italian patent company Sisvel had won an injunction against it regarding the MP3 format.
some interesting facts about SanDisk
* SanDisk currently holds more than 2100 patents, more than 1100 foreign patents and more than 1100 patent applications pending in the U.S. Every company that uses one of their patents needs to pay royalties to SanDisk, and nearly every handset vendor has embedded SanDisk technology
* Their revenue is currently sitting at US$ 4.82 billion, with a total profit of US$ 1.30 billion for 2010. Their total equity is estimated to be around US$ 5.78 billion.
* One of the manufacturing plants in Shanghai, China is about the size of five football fields, and since it needs to be sterile environment, only around 400 employees actually work there. Making use of robots and automated machines, the factory has the capacity to push out around a million units a day.
* Although they have nothing to do with Apple, SanDisk actually benefits from the success of the iPod and iPad, as it drives up the market price for flash memory.

* SanDisk has been operating in South Africa for the last 10 years, and is currently breaking into the Nigerian and Kenyan markets. They are currently selling about 35 000 flash memory units a month

PTI ASSIGNMENT

beyond the book number 2 and 8

computer usage at sports

1. Instant replay

is the replaying of video footage of an event or incident very soon . instant replay is often used during live broadcast, to show a passage of play which was important or remarkable, or which was unclear on first sight.

In NBA basketball, the officials must watch an instant replay of a buzzer beater to determine if the shot was released before time expired. Since 2002, the NBA also has mandated installation of light strips on both the backboard and the scorer's table that illuminate when time expires, in order to assist with any potential review.
"The referee may use technical equipment to determine on a last shot made at the end of each period or extra period, whether the ball has or has not left the player's hand(s) within the playing time."
In field hockey, the International Hockey Federation allows the match umpire to request the opinion of a video umpire as to whether or not a goal has been validly scored, and whether there was a violation in the build-up to a goal.
In Motor Sports, video replays are used to review rules infractions and scoring disputes.
video replay is used to determine if a car has crossed the pit entrance before the pit was closed for a yellow flag, used to supplement electronic scoring to determine the positions in which cars exit the pits (during cautions), also determines if drivers are following pit road speed limits.

2. Soccer Goal Line Technology

There has been a need for goal line technology in soccer, particularly as TV replays are showing in retrospect wrong decisions by the referee.

Possible Options:

Smart Ball

A promising prospect has been a "smartball" loaded with an computer chip, jointly developed by German companies Cairos Technologies and the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits, an engineering research and software development company, along with the Adidas athletic clothing and shoe company.
The companies' technology uses a network of receivers around the field designed to track the ball's precise position in real time - including exactly when it has fully passed the goal line. That information would be relayed in less than a second to a watch-like device worn by the referee.

Hawkeye

The Hawke Eye system uses three cameras focused on each goal-line, and each taking footage at 600 frames a second. Hawk-Eye is able to give a definitive decision on whether the ball has fully crossed the line, and relay this information in the form of an audible beep to the central referee within half a second.
As the Premier League referees use headsets, the signal is easily sent to them. In other leagues, other methods such as through a watch can be used.

3. Fitness Organizer

Organizing Fitness could be done easily using software. BodyByte is one fitness organizer that plans your fitness needs. features :

  • Body Management - enables you to view and modify your User Profile details, and perform body state history recording (body weight, body measurements, body fat, blood pressure, heart rate, cholesterol and fitness levels).
  • Exercise Management - for exercise planning and recording.
  • Fitness Assessment Monitoring - you can record and track up to 16 fitness parameters along with your other body state indicators, which provides for a truly full body profile analysis.
  • Nutrition Management - used to view and print food items in the main country specific food database or Customized Food List, create recipes, compile meals and daily meal plans from food items in the database or food list, and record your intake history.
  • History Analysis and Reporting - reports can be generated for all recorded intake, exercise and body state history. You can view detailed listings, daily averages or time period-related aggregates, displayed in tabular and graph formats.

Leaked video shows 'real' iPhone 5

tag : iphone 5, leaked video iphone 5 ,  leaked iphone 5, iphone 5 release
news from cnet

It's now exactly one week until September 12, otherwise known as iPhone 5 launch day. Or perhaps it'll be "new iPhone" launch day.
Whatever the case, another Apple handset is coming -- and a new video suggests that all the mockups, leaked specs, and other rumors we've seen are right on target.
The video (obtained via Gizmodo) shows the new iPhone alongside an iPhone 4, with the handler turning them over so you can see them side by side, back to back, top to top, and so on.
OK, sure, but maybe this is just another mockup of assembled parts? Nope: 40 seconds in, the user boots both phones -- and it's about 34 seconds later that the new iPhone springs to life.
Well, sort of: it springs to an error message about it being "not registered as part of the iPhone Developer Program."
Even so, I don't think there can be any question that what we're seeing here is the new iPhone. After repeated viewings of the video, I'm left with these thoughts:
  • The new iPhone does indeed appear to be a hair thinner and narrower than the iPhone 4, and perhaps half an inch taller.
  • Maybe it's a trick of the lighting, but the new screen seems much blacker than the old one.
  • The iPhone 4 finished booting about 6 seconds after the new iPhone.
  • Both models showed a briefly animated Apple logo in the final second of the boot process. I'm assuming that's an iOS 6 thing, though I haven't found any reference to it elsewhere. If you're a developer, have you seen this before?
  • The headphone jack is on the bottom, alongside the new dock connector. Not sure how I feel about that, but my initial reaction is: "Oy."
Your thoughts? Think there's any chance this video could be a fake? Which are you sicker of right now: iPhone 5 coverage or election coverage?
